SHELLEY. Welcome back to the Broken Crayons Still Color podcast! I’m your host, Shelley Hitz and today’s guest is Angela Morgan. Hey! Angela
ANGELA. Hi! Shelley
SHELLEY. It’s great to have you with me here today. You know it’s interesting because sometimes God teaches us the most powerful lessons in the midst of just day to day life, when we lease expected. And, Angela’s going to share an illustration today that God gave her in the midst of buying trees, (LOL), go figure right. And, so Angela share a little bit about this story that God gave you.
ANGELA. You know for years my husband and I had talked about wanting to buy peach trees for our yard. Earlier this spring we finally decided to go ahead and buy our trees so we went to the local nursery. We had a selection of about maybe fifteen trees, and my husband quickly chose one and this tree was perfect. I wanted to find that perfect tree too. As I was about to make my choice I noticed that the tree had a broken branch, so I quickly went on to the next tree to see if I like it or not, and for some reason I just couldn’t make up my mind. Over and over I kept going back to this tree with a broken branch, for some reason I was drawn to it I didn’t understand why. So after about 10 minutes, you know I finally tell my husband “you know what I’m going to take this tree home with me, it speaks to me and I don’t know why”.
ANGELA. So a few days later. A few days later I go outside and I noticed that my husband’s tree has about 5 or 6 blooms on it, but then I look over at my tree, my broken tree and its covered with blooms, dozens of blooms I mean it was spectacular.
ANGELA. As I was, as I was standing there in awe of this beautiful tree that’s when the Holy Spirit whispered to me. Just like you chose that broken tree I chose you. See even in my brokenness I knew that I wasn’t perfect but I knew that this was confirmation for me that Jesus was telling me I’m still going to choose you. I still love you, you are still my beloved.
SHELLEY. I love that and I think so many of us especially in this picture perfect world. You know social media I think drives it, advertising where they change the pictures they, they make them look perfect. There’s always filters and edits and, and we all have this. I think, I don’t know I just, I think it’s a human desire, we have this desire for perfection. I think it, I think in reality it’s a desire for heaven. Because that’s what, you know heaven’s going to be that for us but it’s that desire for something else but I think many times we strive for the perfection and I know I have really done that in my life and yet, God uses the weak things of the world to bring Him Glory.
ANGELA. That’s right.
SHELLEY. And so, I love this story. And just you know what, what it showed you. Did you take a picture of the two trees side by side?
ANGELA. I didn’t. I wish, I wish I would have and you know that little that little tree ended up producing twenty peaches, it was a young tree.
SHELLEY. Awesome! And you know.
ANGELA. That’s our miracle tree.
SHELLEY. Yeah! And that’s you know it’s a really good follow-up is that God can make fruitful, you know can bring fruit from the broken things in our life and I’m completely seeing that just with my book Broken Crayons Still Color, with the speaking that I’ve done, sharing my testimony of all the different things I’ve been through. He’s able to bring fruit from that and many times we’re stuck in shame, we want to hide that, we don’t want to choose the broken things like I don’t want to talk about my pornography addiction I’d rather just keep that to myself and talk about other things. (LOL)
SHELLEY. And yeah, when God just kept drawing you back to that broken plant that broken with the broken branch, its such a great illustration of what He often does in our lives. You know, once he’s brought us through something He’s healed us He’s you know really brought us to the other side. And do you have a scripture that really just speak to you regarding this story?
ANGELA. I, I do, often when I’m overwhelmed by life and feeling stress out the words of Jesus from Matthew 11:28-30 come to my mind. He tells us “come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yolk upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yolk is easy and my burden is light”. Just give your burdens to Jesus, He’s the one who can heal your heart heal your broken heart.
SHELLEY. I find it really interesting that that’s the scripture you chose because as we were recording this just a few minutes ago in my quiet time with the Lord that is exactly what He said to me. (LOL)
SHELLEY. She said Shelley give me your burdens.
SHELLEY. You were not created to handle all of these. As humans we are, we are, we’re human we’re not, we’re not God, we’re not meant to carry the burdens of everything and He was like “Shelley just give it to me, I can handle it”, (LOL), and you can’t. And not, not that we can’t handle, you know it’s like Oh not that we can’t do it but we’re not created to do it. There’s some things that are God size things and He just gave me that picture of just putting my burdens into His hands and you know just put like, releasing them and so I think that’s that’s, just confirmation (LOL) for me again today.
SHELLEY. Yes. Well have you seen God take the broken pieces in your life and bring healing in any way?
ANGELA. Numerous times. Numerous times, yes. And He has shown me through through all of these that I am a masterpiece. I am a masterpiece.
SHELLEY. Amen! Yes, He can take our broken pieces, our mess, our brokenness and turn them into a masterpiece and you are a masterpiece Angela. I think that sometimes it’s hard to grasp that, it’s hard to fully believe that, but God is creating a masterpiece in each one of us.
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us today. I prayed that it has just encourage our listeners that is has brought you hope no matter where you at. You know, you may feel like you are the most broken tree in the row trees and yet God has chosen you and He will bear fruit through your life. In John 15 says you know “When we abide in Him and He abides in us, we will bear fruit”. It doesn’t say we might and you have a great illustration of how that, that can happen in our lives. So thanks again for joining us and we’ll see you next time, bye.
ANGELA. Thank you Shelley.
